Webelotrax welcomes Cephlon to the roster with a bold and blissful 4-track EP that delves deep into the corners of classic glitched-out IDM. From flourishing melodies to deconstructed beats and lush atmospheres, Apophenia is a true treat for the explorative listener.

Cephlon (formerly known as Audio Cephlon) is the moniker of Greg Lawrence, a pioneering electronic musician hailing from Perth, Western Australia – one of the most isolated cities in the world. Since the rave era of the mid-1990s, Greg is known for his unique style of glitchy and melodic ambient IDM. Like many IDM producers, his influences include a lot of Warp Record artists from the 1990s , and the Cocteau Twins.

His compositions infuse intricate synthetic percussion with lush analog textures, resulting in an aural aesthetic that is immersive, ethereal, and rhythmic. Cephlon's music envelops kernels of dance music genres in futuristic atmospheres and ambient environments with hints of dystopia, creating a distinct sense of place for the listener.

The EP is a reflection on Apophenia—a psychosocial phenomenon where people derive meaningful connections and patterns from unrelated things. It’s something humans naturally do, whether through astrology, hearing voices in static, or seeing clouds take on familiar shapes as they drift across the sky.

The irony is that Apophenia is an ability shaped by millions of years of evolution. It helped us detect predators in the noise. Yet now, it’s contributing to the dumbing down of society through popular conspiracy theories that have become intertwined with politics.
