WEBELOTRAX ARTIST FAQ→
So you’re interested in becoming a Webelo?
We want to make onboarding as easy and frictionless as possible, so we will attempt to answer any questions you might have here - with a thorough breakdown of our operation and process.
WHAT IS WEBELOTRAX?
Webelotrax is an independently owned and operated record label. We are a small team, operating out of Colorado Springs.
WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR ME?
We provide basic services for artists that we believe in. This includes publication and distribution of your music, in-house artwork and visual promotions - all at no cost to you. We work one-on-one with artists to make their vision a reality, allowing them to focus on the things that truly matter: the sounds.
We will publish your project to our Bandcamp as well as Internet Archive, and if you choose, to distribution to streaming platforms.
WE DO NOT MAKE VINYL RECORDS.
We understand this is a highly desirable facet of producing music as an independent artist - but due to factors such as environmental impact, production cost and customer cost, we are not currently pursuing vinyl production. Our main method of producing physicals are Compact Discs - a method we adopted in 2023 by working closely with a factory in Oregon. With this approach, we are able to manufacture high-quality CD’s for a fraction of the cost of vinyl - all while providing artist copies and worldwide shipping at a reasonable cost.
HOW DOES THIS WORK?
While we are quite flexible, there are a few recommendations we have for artists joining the label.
-
4-Track EP’s are a great starting point. It provides the artist with a tight, targeted approach, while simultaneously giving us, the label, a wonderful ‘introduction’ to your sound.
-
We require your trax to be unpublished. That means - as much as we might enjoy and appreciate your catalog of music on bandcamp/streaming platforms, we will not re-publish something that has already been published. The reasoning behind this is not only to reduce friction regarding ISRCs, UPCs / EANs and countless other complexities, but also to provide both the Label and the Artist with a proper reason to promote the project.
-
We encourage you to take your time - there is no reason to settle for anything, and our most successful projects tend to be the most thought-out ones. We will never pressure you with a deadline
WHAT DOES THE LABEL TAKE?
By releasing your music through Webelotrax - you agree to 10% of bandcamp sales going to the label. This helps us cover costs of web hosting, download codes and distribution.
WHAT DOES THE ARTIST GET?
Artists recieve 90% of bandcamp sales and 100% of streaming royalties.
Artists retain ownership of their masters. In this manner - Webelotrax can be considered as more of a collective than a corporation. That means you are free to upload the music to your own bandcamp, or request a take-down of your music hosted by Webelotrax at any point (though we certainly discourage such a thing!)
You will be provided all art materials, high resolution cover art and social media promotions for your own use.
Webelotrax provides Mastering services at no additional charge. If we feel one or more of your tracks need an adjustment, we will provide you a re-master for your approval. We guarantee to only ever upload approved re-masters, as we desire to maintain the integrity of the artists vision
WHY WORK WITH WEBELOTRAX?
Webelotrax is a grassroots organization with a focus on mission, execution and community. Leading the operation is Christopher Hoffmann Graseck-Jacob - an Artist and Musician with over a decade in the industry (Grappa Frisbee Records 2010-2013, personal productions as Ohsaurus 2009-Current), with the help of his wife and a handful of friends. We are not playlist builders or trend-chasers. We are lifelong underground + experimental music and art lovers. Webelotrax may very well be considered patronage of the arts before being identified as a traditional label, and we lean into that!
We may not be the biggest or best label out there - as a matter of fact, we are quite a small and humble operation! What we are doing is creating a legacy - etching our creative voices into binary stone, holding eachother up in ways the mainstream could never even dream of...
WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP?
If you’re reading this webpage - then you’re likely already in contact with Webelotrax MGMT via email. If you have not been instructed to do so, here is what we need for your release with the label:
-
WAV Files for your tracks. Please let us know if you need mastering services, which will be provided free of charge.
-
Artwork Concepts + Source Imagery. We will create in-house artwork for your release. If you already have cover art you have made, we will include it as a bonus item with the album download. We ask that artists provide either 1-2 adjectives/concepts or 1-2 source images for their album artwork as a reference point.
-
Full Name and Country + State/Region - This is only necessary if you are opting in for distribution to streaming platforms
-
A 2-5 sentence artist statement about the project, or artist bio. We will provide our own brief write-up describing the sounds, but this can be your opportunity to address your listeners directly.
We know being involved with a label is complicated business, and a big decision for an indepentent artist. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at contact@webelotrax.com
